Sure, the Porsche Macan and Cayenne are both practical four-door alternatives to any conventional sports car, but it’s the Panamera that’s closer to the pedigree of the 911. Just with a touch of practicality, you can say.
The previous generations of the Panamera were nothing short of impressive when it came to the driving appeal – it’s a Porsche too, after all. The only sore point with the last-gen Panamera, then, was its design, as it just didn’t gel well with its sporty character.
A short history lesson will help you recall that the Panamera is not Porsche’s first four-door car; there was a four-seater car based on the 356 in the 1950s. Apart from a host of features, the Panamera comes with a twin-turbocharged V8 under the bonnet, mated to an 8-speed PDK transmission.
In its current-generation, however, Porsche has made significant amends to the design of the Panamera, making it as desirable and fitting as ever. So, without further-a-do, let’s take a look at it now, shall we?
Porsche has simply done an impeccable job with the design of the new Panamera. In all honesty, the rear-end is a massive improvement over the previous car. The new car has a much more refined, gorgeous and fitting design, something that the previous car lacked thereof.
As for its overall dimensions, however, the Panamera measures 5,053mm in overall length, 1,937mm in overall width, and 1,422mm in overall height. The wheelbase seems extremely fitting, too, at 2,950mm. Moreover, the base-spec trim of the Panamera tips the scale at 2,100kg, making it a heavier car. The ground clearance is a bare minimum, at 128mm. Apart from that, it has a massive boot space capacity of 500-litres and a fuel tank capacity of 90-litres.
Under the hood, the Panamera is powered by just a singleengine, which is available in two tunes, depending solely on the variant. It is a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine, which turbos mounted inside the V of the engine, which makes 453bhp and 620Nm of torque in its lower state of tune. In the higher variants, the engine is tuned to churn out 542bhp and 770Nm of torque. All this power and torque is put down to the road via a standard all-wheel-drive system paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Sure, a Panamera owner couldn’t care less about the fuel efficiency of its sports car, but, just for reference, the Porsche you see above is capable of delivering a respectable 8km/l under soft driving and perfect conditions.
The Panamera, as you would expect, is loaded to the gills with features. On the outside, you get massive 20-inch rims and LED lighting for both the headlamps and taillamps.
On the inside, you get automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, four-zone automatic climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, paddle-shifters, cruise control, rear parking sensors, rear parking camera and climate control. On the safety front, as you expect from the Porsche Panamera price, it is equipped with multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, ESP and traction control.
The Panamera, as of early-2020, comes in twelveshades, namely, White,Black,Carrara White Metallic,Gentian Blue Metallic,Burgundy Red Metallic,Night Blue Metallic,Volcano Grey Metallic,Jet Black Metallic,GT Silver Metallic,Carmine Red,Amethyst Metallic, and Mahogany Metallic.
